It goes without saying that 2020 has been difficult. Many, if not all of us, have experienced social isolation, the loss of a job or loved one, and a chronic state of uncertainty. Several businesses and nonprofits were forced to close, and others had to drastically reduce the services for the most vulnerable in our community. If there were ever a time to come together and support one another, it is now.
Historically, the AIDS Walk & 5K Run has been one of the largest, most visible HIV/AIDS, service, advocacy, and awareness event in the Triangle. This year, out of respect for the community’s health, the event will be held virtually, from Friday, October 16 through Friday October 30. Regardless of its setting, the AIDS Walk & 5K Run has and will always be our time to connect and stand together in a powerful show of love and support. Similarly, the proceeds from the AIDS Walk & 5K Run, will always support the provision of free and accessible HJV/STI education and testing, nutritious food and dignity items, and compassionate, non-judgmental care for those affected by HIV/AIDS. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds support meaningful and timely initiatives, programs and events.
This year, in the spirit of supporting one another, The Alliance of AIDS Services -Carolina and Crape Myrtle Festival are partnering to “Pay it Forward,” in recognition and appreciation of the grassroot efforts and organizations that share our strong desire to serve those affected by HIV/ AIDS, the LGBT community, their families and our allies. That said, a portion of the 2020 AIDS Walk & 5K Run proceeds will be donated to CMF and included in their annual grant program that supports grassroots organizations and initiatives across the region.
